Fulbright Scholars Exploring Bulgaria’s Heritage in Blagoevgrad

A group of Fulbright scholars from esteemed U.S. universities embarked on a week-long journey to Bulgaria, organized by the Bulgarian Fulbright Commission.

Through their visit Lynn Dodd, Anthony Graesch, Lisa Fiala, Jessica Howell, and Lori Lee aimed to deepen understanding their understanding of Bulgaria’s cultural heritage and explore avenues for academic collaboration.

Their itinerary included a stop at Blagoevgrad – on the AUBG campus. The group had an engaging discussion with faculty and students from the History & Civilizations department, followed by a campus tour provided insights into AUBG’s academic environment. The group met with the AUBG representatives – faculty, staff, and students, with whom they were able to discuss current topics of worldwide importance as the development of Artificial Intelligence, as well as exchange opportunities.

Venturing into Blagoevgrad’s Varosha old town, the scholars had a grasp in Bulgaria’s rich history, with a visit to the Regional Museum of History. These experiences showed the cultural legacy of Bulgaria and the potential for future academic partnerships.

Departing with newfound appreciation, the Fulbright scholars left Blagoevgrad with a commitment to fostering international collaboration and advancing knowledge in cultural heritage.
