Board of Trustees Update May 2024

The past weekend marked the annual May meeting of the Board of Trustees before the Commencement celebrations.

“It has been a profound honor to be part of the beautiful commencement ceremony and to witness the send-off of our exceptional graduates,” said the Chair of the Board, Mike Marvin. “Over the past few days, everything was remarkable – from the dedication ceremony honoring Professor Alexander Ganchev to our first-ever indoor graduation ceremony, as well as the inspiring conversations with faculty, students, and administration. Our deepest thanks to all involved in organizing the ceremony.”

The meeting wrap up was presented during a Town Hall meeting. Read below for the highlights.

Admissions

·        The work by the Admissions team, strategic digital recruitment efforts, and well-crafted content by the Office of Communication and Marketing have resulted in the identification of a record number of highly qualified students for AUBG’s incoming class.
·        AUBG continues developing every segment of the institution to ensure the highest quality education.
·        Multiple strategies aim at assisting all students in the best possible way, as AUBG grows to become a more impactful and sustainable institution.

Development

·        The launch of the first-ever Week of Giving from will happen on June 3, and will continue until June 7, 2024.  With this AUBG aims to broaden its donor base and attract more philanthropic support for AUBG.
·        Additionally, the team is working on engaging more alumni to be part of the growth and impact of the university.

Academics

·        Faculty expansion is continuing across various departments, as a preparation for the growing student body.
·        AUBG will expand the Environmental Sustainability Initiative Fund, that was recently founded.
·        Additionally, there is an on-going research for new non-degree and graduate programs.
·        The Sofia Semester initiative will begin with the Fall ‘24 semester.

Financials

·        AUBG is in a strong and stable financial condition.
·        The budget for the 2024/2025 academic year was approved as proposed.

Governance

·        The Board of Trustees welcomed three new members – the new Alumni Association President Valya Nadova (‘13), Kathryn Loosemore, and David Cleave.
·        Jordan Karabinov (‘97) completed his term on the Board and was elected to serve on the University Council.
