Academic Advising Center Junior Coordinator

The American University in Bulgaria (AUBG) is seeking to hire an Academic Advising Center Junior Coordinator. The provides holistic academic advising services to support student academic success, retention, and program completion while engaging students in informed decision-making processes regarding educational planning.

Key Responsibilities:

Academic Advising Services:

  • Provides accurate, timely, and holistic advising services to promote student academic success, retention, and program completion.
  • Assists students in understanding academic policies and procedures.
  • Provides students with accurate information about academic progress and degree requirements.
  • Assists students in developing educational plans that are consistent with their life goals.
  • Serves as the primary advisor for first-year students and undeclared/undecided students, assisting them in developing educational plans that align with their life goals.
  • Supports interventions to assist at-risk students, improving overall success and retention rates.
  • Work closely with faculty, the Dean of Faculty, the Dean of Students, the Registrar’s Office, the Writing Center, the Health and Well-being Center, the Career Center, the Accessibility and Inclusion Office, and all campus resources to provide comprehensive referrals and support for students.

Program Development and Event Coordination:

  • Contributes to the development, planning and delivery of academic advising-related programs that support student academic success.
  • Helps coordinate advising.
  • Assist in organizing and delivering academic advising-related events to enhance student engagement and awareness of available resources.

Data-Driven Support, Data Management and Reporting:

  • Reviews and utilizes available data regarding students’ academic needs, performance, and aspirations to enhance advising services.
  • Helps collect, analyze, and report data related to student advising interactions and outcomes, contributing to the continuous improvement of advising services.

Resource Development:

  • Helps create and maintain informational materials, resources, and guides for students regarding academic programs, degree requirements, and academic resources available.
  • Assists with creating and maintaining a website presence for the Academic Advising Center.

Student Advisor Training and Support

  • Assist in recruiting, selecting, and training student advisors and tutors, including scheduling their work to ensure effective student support.
  • Assists with scheduling and supervising the work of student advisors and tutors.

Outreach and Engagement: Helps maintain relations with professional organizations and partner universities.

Welcoming Environment and Inclusivity: Strives to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive environment within the Academic Advising Center.

Confidentiality and Compliance: Maintains appropriate confidentiality in all student interactions and ensures compliance with academic policies and procedures.

Requirements and Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required; Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Native or near-to native (min.C1-level) fluency in oral and written English is required.
  • Excellent computer skills are required.
  • Intercultural competency is required.
  • Familiarity with academic advising, academic policies, procedures, and degree requirements within higher education, particularly in a liberal arts university context is preferred.
  • Awareness of student development and career development theories is preferred.
