Susan Johnson

Senior Vice President of Development

Susan Johnson is a global executive strategist with 20+ years of leading design and implementation strategies to identify source funding and accelerate financial growth objectives. Her experience in the nonprofit sector has been with organizations ranging from universities to start ups, and across multiple areas, including higher and elementary education, CBOs, arts and culture, and faith based organizations.

As a consultant for Interim Solutions and The Whelan Group, she worked with many New York City based institutions including the Innocence Project, El Museo del Barrio, and New York Restoration Project (NYRP) where she focused on growth including reorganizations, leadership transitions, strategic planning as well as fundraising.

Her in-house experience includes building development programs and professionalizing operations in the areas of major donor cultivation, capacity building, and board development. Susan served as vice president of development at The American University of Rome, and director of development at New York University Wagner School of Public Service, the Institute for Global Ethics, and at Harlem Academy.

Susan sits on the Salem College Alumnae Board and is chair of the College Fund. She completed graduate coursework at the Institute for Not for Profit Management at Columbia Business School and New York University Institute of Fine Arts, and she holds a B.A. in philosophy from Salem College.
