Sports and Athletics Program (Junior) Coordinator

The American University in Bulgaria (AUBG) is seeking to hire a Sports and Athletics Program (Junior) Coordinator. The role helps organize and coordinate sports, intramural, and recreational programs on campus. This role promotes sports and athletics, encourages a healthy lifestyle among students, and supports the effective planning and oversight of all athletic activities.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Design and Implementation: Collaborates with the Sports and Athletics Manager to design and implement diverse sports and athletics programs and initiatives that align with student interests and university goals. Organizes engagement events to increase student involvement.

Student Athlete Support: Provides guidance and support to student-athletes and teams. Serves as advisor for student sports clubs.

Scheduling and Resource Management: Oversees the scheduling of sports events and activities (incl. summer events), ensuring optimal utilization of facilities and resources.

Marketing and Promotion: Collaborates with the Sports and Athletics Center staff and relevant departments to develop and implement marketing strategies that enhance visibility and participation in sports programs among students and the community.

Compliance and Facility Management: Supports the Sports and Athletics Manager in ensuring all athletic activities comply with university policies, regulations, and safety standards; assists in the management and maintenance of sports facilities to ensure readiness and compliance.

Coaching and Staff Volunteer Oversight: Assists the Sports and Athletics Manager in recruiting, training, and supervising coaches, sports judges, and volunteers to maintain high standards of coaching and officiating. Assists the Sports and Athletics Manager in recruiting and training student assistants.

Data Collection and Program Evaluation: Collects regular feedback and systematically gathers data to evaluate the effectiveness of sports and athletics programs, supporting the Sports and Athletics Manager in analyzing data and reporting findings to make recommendations for improvements.

Partnership Development: Supports the Sports and Athletics Manager in building and maintaining partnerships with external sports organizations, schools, universities in Bulgaria and abroad, and community groups to enhance programming and outreach initiatives.

Logistical Coordination: Coordinates logistical arrangements for athletic practices, games, and competitions to ensure smooth operations.

Requirements and Desired Qualifications:

  • Very good (min. B2-level) fluency in oral and written English is required.
  • Working oral proficiency of Bulgarian is preferred.
  • Proven record of professional development sports certificates are preferred.
  • Very good computer skills are required.
  • Basic health and safety certification (CPR, first aid, and injury prevention) is preferred.
