Cosmology and Astrophysics

PHY 3050

Cosmology is the study of the evolution of the Universe from the Big Bang to the formation of galaxies and stars. This course will introduce students to the observational data and its interpretation in the present standard model of the Universe. Some of the topics that will be covered are cosmic dynamics, dark matter and energy, cosmic microwave background, the inflation period in the evolution, nucleosynthesis, and the formation of structures (galaxies, etc.).
